“Developing talented individuals to contribute to a decentralized Society”

Tokushima Bunri University (TBU) is celebrating it’s 130th anniversary. The university is one of the leading comprehensive private universities in western Japan, with nine faculties and 28 departments at the Tokushima and Takamatsu Station campuses.
TBU has always developed in response to the changing of the times.
Under the slogan “Tokushima Bunri University, Creating Your Future,” we aim to further improve our brand strength as a university located in the two prefectural capitals of Shikoku.

The university places the highest priority on the “enhancement of education in line with the times.” In today‘s society, skills in collecting, processing, and analyzing digital information have become essential for both liberal arts and science majors. In FY2023, TBU established educational programs on data science and AI; all departments of the university and junior college have “literacy level” programs and the Faculty of Science and Technology as well as the the Faculty of Human Life Sciences have “applied basic level” programs. These programs comply with the Accreditation System of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and were approved by the Ministry in 2024.

In terms of research, with the goal of “distinctive research that responds to local needs,” the nine faculties collaborate to promote research that contributes to the SDGs, including community health and welfare, education, food, disaster risk reduction, and public policy. In addition, the university is actively engaged in recurrent education, meaning “reskilling and upskilling even for working adults.”

Key examples are the “Wakan-yaku Workshop” for pharmacists, the “Childcare Seminar” for childcare professionals, the “Clinical Psychology Workshop” for licensed psychologists and clinical psychologists, and the “Certified Physical Therapist Clinical Certification Curriculum Training” for physical therapists. We plan to offer AI and data science education for working adults in the future.

In Japan, while the population is declining, it is increasingly concentrated in metropolitan areas. In order for our country as a whole to remain prosperous and vibrant, a shift to a decentralized society is urgently needed. Through education, research, and community activities, TBU is committed to fostering talented individuals who can contribute to a decentralized society.
